About Buk Tu Mau Kuan Kung Fu
Learn traditional Kung Fu in Camberwell, in a friendly and supportive atmosphere at Buk Tu Mau Kuan Kung Fu — the White Rabbit Kung Fu School.
Classes are taught by Sifu Dan Prager and Sifu Jeannie Meekins, under the guidance of Principal Instructor Sifu Chris Bailey.
Sunday morning class is a long-standing Federation tradition. Our 90-minute class is a little less formal than other Federation sessions, offering variety, room for questions, and plenty of exploration.
We teach both the fundamentals and advanced Hung Kuen Kung Fu, tailored to each student, while making the most of group learning. Learn more about our style here.
This is Kung Fu that’s practical, fun, and meaningful.
A Typical Class
Foundational Training
Jibengong: exercises to build strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. This includes stretching, stance work (horse stance, bow, cat, dragon), punching drills, and kicking exercises. Students train at a pace appropriate to their age and martial arts experience.
Partner Work & Self-Defence
Practice timing, distance, and practical self-defence through partner drills. We use kick pads and mouthguards in controlled impact exercises, building confidence, toughness, and resilience, safely.
Empty Hand Sets
Our solo sets are the heart of the art, containing the techniques, principles, and “secrets” of Hung Kuen Kung Fu. Instead of learning a new form at each level, students begin with a complete set and refine it over time, from beginner to black sash. Beyond learning the choreography and self-defence applications of each set, we explore the five animals — tiger, crane, snake, leopard, and dragon — cultivating qualities like strength, balance, speed, grace, sensitivity, agility, and awareness.
Weapons Training
Progress to traditional Chinese weapons, developing coordination, body awareness, and martial understanding. The same body movements, power generation, and applications that we use in empty-hand kung fu extend into weapons-based practice.
A Mindful Martial Art
Kung Fu is both martial and mindful. Develop practical skill, resilience, and self-defence, while refining breath, posture, focus, and inner calm. Over time, discover how the soft and hard aspects come together in a comprehensive martial art.
Please note: This is a shoes-on class.
