Judo
Judo is a martial art that was formulated by Jigoro Kano in 1882. Kano wanted to bring the techniques of many styles of Jiu-jitsu together integrating them using the principle of maximum efficiency. The modern or olympic style of Judo emphasizes sporting aspects. In contrast we teach a more traditional style of Judo that includes many throws and locks that are no longer taught in olympic Judo. Our style of teaching is based on the system developed by Mikonosuke Kaiwaishi in France in the 1930s.
Judo gives us a competitive outlet with a variety of Judo competetions held through out the year, but it retains the values of a traditional martial art. It also provides us with an avenue to test our throwing and grappling skills.
